Planning Aesthetic Surgery in India? What Is Your Surgeon Assessing Before You Travel?

For an international patient, the first consultation often happens before you ever enter the clinic.

You may speak to your surgeon over video, send photographs and medical information, and discuss the procedure you are considering. At SB Aesthetics, this remote consultation is used to understand your concerns and begin planning before you travel. The final surgical decision, however, is made after an in-person examination.

What is your surgeon actually assessing?

A good consultation is not simply about confirming the procedure you ask for. Your surgeon is trying to understand:

  • Your concern: What specifically would you like to change?
  • Your anatomy: Skin quality, proportions, asymmetry, scars, previous surgery, and underlying structure can all influence the plan.
  • Your health: Medical conditions, medicines, supplements, allergies, and previous anaesthesia issues may affect surgery or recovery.
  • Your expectations: What result are you hoping for, and is it realistic for your anatomy?
  • Your treatment options: The procedure you have researched may be appropriate, but another approach—or sometimes less treatment—may suit you better.

This reflects Dr. Shilpi Bhadani’s patient-first philosophy: understand the concern first, then decide what treatment, if any, is appropriate.

What can be decided virtually?

Photographs, video, medical history, and previous records can provide valuable preliminary information. They can help your surgeon understand the broad problem, discuss possible options, and tell you what additional information may be needed before travel.

What they cannot fully replace is physical examination. Tissue quality, skin laxity, scars, muscle behaviour, and the effects of previous surgery may only become clear when you are examined directly.

For that reason, your preliminary plan may be refined after you arrive in Gurugram.

What should a good consultation give you?

Not simply a procedure name.

It should leave you understanding why a particular approach is being recommended, what alternatives exist, what remains uncertain, and what can realistically be achieved.

For an international patient, confidence should come from clarity—not from being told that everything is already decided before you board the flight.

If you are preparing to travel, our international patient preparation guide explains the next steps, including documentation, arrival, surgery, recovery, and planning your journey home.
